The Art of Life: Cherishing the Joy of Little Things with Hygge

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Robert Brault

It’s been one week I am writing this series and I am enjoying this. It is dusk here and I am enjoying this golden hour.

The sky is glittering with the sparkling crimson, the neighbourhood kids are playing in the road, and the folk of birds are returning home. I am watching them all and typing on my laptop about my experience.

I am enjoying writing in this way, relieving my day’s stress and finding some moments for my own love of writing and watching nature.

The breeze is calming my mind and I am enjoying this.

I am enjoying all these little things.

This is what I have learned about the art of life that tells us how important is to cherish the joy of little things around you. And the art of life is Hygge.

Cherishing the Joy of Little Things with Hygge

Amidst the stress and anxiety of life’s big things, often we forget to be mindful of the tiny things that can bring us joy and happiness.

Therefore, if you can practice Hygge, it will be easier to find joy in little things that is extremely important to find inner calm.

The Danish concept of Hygge is a blissful art of life that means encompasses a feeling of cosiness. And within this cosiness, there is a purpose of finding contentment that is essential for your well-being.

The main purpose of this Hygge lifestyle is to celebrate every little thing in your life so that you can find happiness within.

Hygge is the quality of cosiness that brings you contentment and becomes a purpose of your well-being.

Therefore, the true essence of this art of life, Hygge, lies in cherishing the beauty of your everyday things, and thus, it is the pursuit of happiness that you will find only in the little things of life.

Hygge: Cherishing the Joy of Little Things

I have always been into this habit of cherishing the little things in life. For many years, almost nearly a decade, I have been into chasing the big things with stress and anxiety. But now, I only focus on the little things in my life.

Although in order to sustain my living, I need a job and work on my own. This is something we all feel stressed about but yes, if you can find out the little things that make you happy from within, it helps you to find the inner calm too.

Whether be it watching the flying birds, the blue sky over your head, enjoying the sunbeams touching your face, or sipping your afternoon coffee, watching it rain and hearing the sounds of raindrops, feeling the calmness around and inhaling the smell of rain falling down, every little thing can give you happiness.

When you are stressed, finding a solution is the only way to bring you the much-awaited relief. But when you are unable to find the solution right at this moment, it is necessary to think of it with a calm mind.

As I am enjoying the blissful dusk now, forgetting the day’s stress and planning for tomorrow’s work. This moment is all about finding joy in the little things around me. And see, I have found so many things to cherish the joy!

I am sure you will certainly find something to cherish right at this moment. Maybe something very little, yet, something very beautiful.

Let’s cherish happiness in the Hygge way!

  1. In the anticipation of something big, we forget to enjoy the small things in life. Reading your post I realised I should carry a book or my laptop to the garden below, to read or to pen my thoughts amongst the plants on the swings, watching young kids and puppies play around me. That could be an enjoyable experience.

  2. I was sold to you right at the beginning of the post, with the quote you have used. I have noticed very meaningful, thoughtful quotes at the beginning of every post since the beginning of the A to Z challenge. But this one had an instant connect! Hygge definitely is a wise concept to help one lead a happy life.

  4. It’s the little things in life that make all the difference.
For eg. Your series of wonderful posts feel Luke an acknowledgement…a comfort that somebody feels just the way you do. You can write it off as an innane feeling but isn’t that what happiness is all about…making ‘connections’? 🙂
