Author: Ekta Saxena

Genre: Poetry

Format: Paperback

Pages: 74

Publisher: NotionPress

My Rating: 4.2/5

About the Book:

The book urges the reader to look into the mirror with conviction and resilience; not to regret the mistakes or the wrong decisions or the heartbreaks and all other things that make you believe you are nothing but a failure, but, to inspire you to see the one who fought with courage, faced the obstacles, won over the challenges and emerged like a Phoenix.

‘Notes to My Healing Self’ is a poetry collection that was written during the tough time of Covid. Therefore, the words inside this book talk about the inner turmoil of a person during the challenging phases of life. The author has written this book as her inner dialogue that inspired her not to give up and motivated her to keep going.

Author Bio:

Ekta Saxena is a Learning Consultant by profession and a motivational writer by passion. She is a level 3 reiki healer who believes in the Universe’s healing powers. She also believes that all of us have an ocean of strength within ourselves to overcome the challenges of our lives. She firmly believes that all must follow their dreams and inch towards them each day with baby steps. After all, we just have one life.

Book Cover:

The book cover is very aptly designed. When we think of the word ‘Healing’, what comes first in your mind? Maybe, a bouquet of flowers with a journal and a note to self like a reminder of hope. But this book’s cover reminds you of the purpose of healing.

The cover depicts a girl who was caged for a long and is now running away from the cage when she saw a hand calling her to come out of the prison.

The soothing yellow color in the background heals your mind. And the illustration tells you that your phase of grief is now over; it’s time to let go of the past and step forward to a new beginning.

For me, the designer has justified the theme of the book with the cover design as it’s delivering the readers a profound message and appealing them to grab this book right away.

Structure of the Book:

The structure of the book is simple. There are a total of 25 poems on hope, healing, purpose in life, motivation, wonders of nature, dreams, and beauty of life.

Some of the poems start with a message from the author, wherein, the others start without any note. However, every poem has a picture attached in the beginning and those images uplift the reader’s mood.

The poems are not too long. They have several paragraphs, and most of the poems consist of around 7-10 paragraphs. Most of the paragraphs have four lines in them.

So, it will not take much of your time to finish reading the book. I have finished reading the book in one day.

Writing Style:

Although the writing style is full of poetic chronicles of self-exploration, embarking on a new journey toward hope and healing, rediscovering the soothing power of nature, and many more secrets of life, however, there is much more lay between the lines.

The poems are written in a motivational tone. Most of the poems offer you a chance to explore life’s hidden gems wrapped in the shimmering glow of nature’s abundance.

A Glimpse of the Book:

In the poem, ‘Believe in Your Dreams’, the author beautifully captures the essence of dreaming. Read her thoughts here:

Dreams are like little children,
they are what you make them believe;
Then there’s no stopping them,
a magical world they weave.

– From ‘Notes To My Healing Self’ by Ekta Saxena

I am a dreamer by heart and I never stop dreaming. However, at times I feel like quitting on dreaming and losing my hope to build my castle of dreams. But words like these are always there to remind us that we must keep dreaming because what we believe, we can achieve.

In the other chapter titled ‘Discovering the True Essence of Life’, she beautifully writes about utilizing every day to its fullest.

Each day of your life is a blank slate,
Use your imagination, your masterpiece to create.

– From ‘Notes To My Healing Self’ by Ekta Saxena

If you have fallen in love with the words of author Ekta Saxena, I must tell you, many more surprises are waiting within the pages.

A Quote to Remember:

Here is my favorite quote from this book:

Everyone has the key to success,
Ensure you’re opening the right lock.

– From ‘Notes To My Healing Self’ by Ekta Saxena

What Makes the Difference:

I believe when a book is being written, the author must add some personal accounts or personal touch in the case of fiction, so the book becomes more alive.

Here in this book, author Ekta Saxena has written the poems in such a way that you can feel her presence in every word, every poem. And what big surprise awaits you? These words do heal your soul.

The author is a level 3 reiki healer and a believer in the healing powers of the Universe, thus, she has brought this power to the pages of her book.

Some Important Highlights:

What I really liked in this book is the author’s power of drawing inspiration from the mundane things that seem ordinary in open eyes but are extraordinary when you are inspired by them.

For example, she loves to converse with the raindrop and finds her messages from heaven through the tiny drops of rain. Similarly, she learns vital life lessons from the firefly and finds her guiding light in their sparkling wings. Sometimes, she gathers courage from the kites and feels her motivated to fly high.

She often contemplates the rising sun and the setting sun; thus, watching the sunrise and sunset with different perspectives to see life’s myriad of hues.

My Recommendation:

If you are looking for a simple motivational book with inspiring poetry to uplift your mood, grab this book. On a gloomy day when you are looking for the ray of hope to start your journey once again, pick this book to read aloud the poems and see yourself embracing the power of positivity.

Definitely Sir. You can check this book. But the price is a bit high. It would be better if we have an eBook version of the book.
