About the Book:

Kiran: Roshni Ki Kavitayein‘ is a poetry collection written by Daisy Bala. The author dedicated this book to her mother. This book has poems of different genres such as motivation, mother-daughter relationships, nature, dreams, feminine power, childhood memories, romance, and hope.

Therefore, in this book, author Daisy Bala takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and leaves you an evening filled with nostalgia and inspiration; the best way to spend time with yourself.

Author Bio:

Daisy is a Business Analyst by profession and a passionate author, blogger, and poetess at heart. She lives in Chicago with her family. Her books “Blossoms and Foliages”, “Patna 800020” and “Husnabai of Faizabad” have received great responses from readers. She’s the winner of the Orange Flower Awards 2022 for her Hindi poetry writing. She has recently published her Hindi poetry book “Kiran” on Amazon.

Book Cover:

The book cover depicts a beautiful sunrise. The sky is adorned with the crimson aura of the rising sun. The title and the tagline of the book are written on the vanishing colors of the sunray, thus making these words seem illuminating from behind the sun.

The designer has used a lighter shade of crimson color, blending it with hues of orange and yellow. I appreciate the book cover color chosen because it justifies the theme of the book, Kiran which means ray of light.

Book review of Kiran by Daisy Bala

Inside the Book:

The author has followed a simplistic approach in structuring the book. There are a total of 34 poems that cover varied topics such as motivation, reminiscing a daughter’s memory with her mother, words to the parted soul, nostalgic moments from her childhood days, what stays amiss in those golden days, an ode to the feminine power, and many more.

Sometimes, she even writes about her dialogues with her inner self and how she contemplates those thoughts to ink on paper.

Writing Style:

Daisy Bala has a unique style of writing that instantly heals your soul. Whether you are reading a motivational poem or a poem where she speaks about her childhood memories or shows her gratitude for life, she proves again and again that she is a gifted writer.

Her words are like a soothing balm to heal your wounds. I have read her books written in English, but this is the first time when I read her Hindi book and I whole-heartedly appreciated her ability to present her emotions with such mesmerizing vocabulary.

While reading the book, I came across some beautiful words and saved them to utter whenever I will need a moment of solitary bliss.

A Glimpse of the Book:

The book comprises poems on a wide range of topics. For example, the author has written some poems where she remembered the memories with her mother, told the readers about her mother, and shared her longing for her mother who is watching her dearest daughter from above.

The heart-wrenching letter written to the mother by the daughter will leave you speechless.

But soon, your mood will uplift as the author starts talking about different sources of light in our lives; sometimes in finding motivation in your gloomy days, sometimes in your hidden feminine power, and sometimes in finding your inner light.

In addition, she talks about childhood memories, leaving the maternal house yet feeling alive in those memories, spending good time with her beloved, and witnessing the splendor of nature, only to invoke the poet within.

A Quote to Remember:

When translated, these words mean:

During these challenging times,

Awaken the sun within.

Bring new consciousness to your roots,

Be your own master to face every challenge,

And shine with your own light.

Although sometimes it’s tough to bring motivation from words when you are constantly facing obstacles and you find no way to overcome the phase of darkness, however, words like these do help you stay motivated and inspire you to hold on to hope a little longer.

Being your own sun is such a thought that I follow from the deepest of my heart. When you don’t seem to find the ray of light, maybe it’s time to be your own light, be your own guide, be your own sun.

And this is why, these two lines are my favorite lines from Daisy Bala’s book Kiran.

What Makes the Difference:

Kiran is not like other motivational books that urge you to embark on a new path or advice you not to give up on dreaming. Many times, keep going seems the toughest of all and at that time, wisdom from motivational books even seem like mere words written on the pages of a book.

But inside Kiran, you will feel the power of words inscribed by a powerful writer. Daisy is not only a brilliant word-weaver but also an outstanding poet. While reading this book, you will realize that she breathes poetry and presents her heart in every word she writes. And here is the X-factor that makes this poetry collection stand out in the crowd.

Some Important Highlights:

One of my favorite poems from this book is the poem titled Ghar. I badly miss my hometown Chittaranjan where I was born and brought up. The author’s words in this poem resonated with mine and evoked nostalgia to the core.

My other favorite poem from this bunch is Indradhanush Sapnon Ka (Translated as The Rainbow of Dreams). I liked how the author defined every color of her rainbow and gave every color a purpose to dream in different avenues. It was a lovely experience to rethink my rainbow and give a definition of its colors with my dreams and purpose in life.

This way, I felt a connection with the poems and they left me mesmerized with the profound messages of feminism, motherly affection, longing for a lover, feeling astonished by the beauty of nature, and remembering our childhood days and the good time we spent with our dear ones.

My Recommendation:

If you are looking for a book that speaks of motivation with poetic expressions, then this book is for you. Also, if you are comfortable with reading a Hindi book and love to read poetry, then pick this book as your next read. You will not regret the decision, I can assure you.

We often want to read a book on our weekend evenings, watch the night sky outside of the window, talk to ourselves, and traverse through the constellation of thoughts. ‘Kiran’ could accompany you on such evenings, and this book will leave you pondering upon your inner strength and discovering your true potential.
