Maa was cooking in the kitchen
The smell of the foods being prepared in the oven
Came to me with a message
“It seems like today’s menu is going to be great”
I thought for a while.
The next moment I remembered,
How difficult was it for her
To cook even a single meal a day
For the last few months,
I became happy to think about her recovery.
Meanwhile, Baba returned home from the bank
And declared that he would like to have a cup of tea
He became tired after standing in the queue for a long
And waiting to be called by the branch manager.
He sat on the bed
And emptied his pocket
Some chillers and a few notes of rupees came
Out of the money bag.
“Finance is something that never leaves you from giving stress”
Baba said
And I nodded my head,
As I believed in the same.
I forgot that I was listening to my favorite songs on the Bluetooth speaker,
And the next song was waiting to be played.
I rushed to the kitchen.
At that moment I felt,
Serving the much-needed cup of tea was my priority.
When I entered the kitchen,
Maa requested me to make the bread-toasts for Baba’s breakfast
“Did you have your breakfast?
You have a medicine to have after that.”
I asked,
And Maa smiled.
The silent smile said it all
That being lost in making today’s menu for the meals,
And being in her favorite place ‘The kitchen’
Made her the happiest.
And she forgot to take her medicines as always.
I made the bread-toasts and tea,
Then served to Maa and Baba.
The wrinkled faces glowed with a smile
Having some peaceful moments
For I saw
Baba forgot about the finances for some time
The lines on the forehead were gone
Maa was happy to have her food ready before her
As it was served by her daughter
They relished their breakfast
With some delightful moments together.
When I returned to my room and went to play the next song,
I saw the speaker was turned off.
I smiled and kept it inside the box,
I was happy to be at the service of my parents
And it gave me happiness.
I started looking for some ingredients of happiness
In the everyday moments
And I found it in the little things
When I discovered
That there is solace in the mundaneness.
