In my school days and college days
One of the most important things that helped me in staying sane
Was the Xerox machine.
Even after my academic sessions were over
And I thought I would never turn to the machine again
I needed it in every hour
Whenever I had some notes for Xerox.
During my school and college days,
Standing in the queue in front of the Xerox center,
Seemed the most boring task in the world.
On a summer day, under the scorching sun,
The body full of sweats
Waiting for the documents to be duplicated
Seemed like the toughest task.
The slowest ceiling fan was always seen in those centers,
Above the Xerox machine
Making the temperature of the earth increased
In multifold.
But the worst
Part of the Xerox machine was
Its terrible sound
When a document was kept above the screen
And the cover was put on it
And the lever was pressed
To make a similar copy of the original one
It seemed like
A mountain was roaring
To fall down like a glacier.
But in the summer days
When we needed a shelter
To stand under a shade
And avoid the heat
We found the Xerox center
As a place of hidden treasure
The slowly running ceiling fan
The roaring sound of the Xerox machine
The uncountable amount of papers
Scattered here and there
Some blank, waiting to be duplicated
Some printed, done becoming a clone
And the originals
Waiting in the queue
To see their clones being born
The stack of files
The calculator on the table to calculate the price
Of being copied
And everything that makes the Xerox center a mini office room
But repeating the same process
of generating the duplicates
Gives solace
For we know there is a place
Whether the duplicates are being sold
But the original copy remains priceless.
