One day, I was sipping my morning tea, relishing on the couch. It was a Sunday and everywhere in the house was laziness, you see, that holiday-type vibes. But everyone in the house forgot that none of us go to school or college or office, so actually every day, it’s a holiday for us.
But I was thinking something else. When I was a kid, that time was quite different than now. Life was simple, pretty simple. Everywhere you would see, there was peace in living with simplicity.
There was no internet. There was no smartphone, and there was nothing like a mobile phone. There were no OTT platforms, social media, mobile apps, online shopping, YouTube, and many such things that have become an inevitable part of our lives in this era.
At that time, there were books, only books from which you could earn knowledge of the world, travel around the globe with your imaginary visions, and find solace in the pages.
There was the ritual of writing hand-written letters to your dear ones. There was the ritual of waiting in the long queue outside the telephone booth to hear the voices of your loved ones. There was a printed bill of your call, a reminder of the duration you have talked to your loved one, and how much money you should come with next time when you make the call.
Now, the bills might have been reduced, the queue has disappeared, and the wait is no longer needed as we all have our own phones in our grips. But yes, there is only a lack of time to remember the dear ones.
The knack for cooking, sewing, painting, singing, dancing, making crafts, and such creative pursuits were still there. Maybe writing heartfelt poetry was the favorite time pass for the ladies of the house, but there was no rush to capture the creative outcome with nice photography, there was no need to be skilled in videomaking and uploading the ‘content’ to the internet. There was contentment in our lives without any content.
At that time, life was filled with zestful days because life was simple, pretty simple.
