I close my eyes

And journey inward;

Journey deep, within,

Journey beyond the depth of everything.

I mute my senses

To make the muse of the visuals

But the door seems to be locked;

A hollow takes me deep into its layers –

Darkness, silence, and nothingness –

That is all I can feel.

Seeking the ray of light

To find the key

I rush towards the door

But fall on the floor.

Lying there, I hold my breath,

And search again;

Only then, I see

the sky reflecting in the glass mirror

Beneath my feet.

It was the moment of awakening

For I realized that I wasn’t wandering,

I was standing in the middle of space and time.

Since the moment I opened my eyes

I was awake,

But the awakening had just begun

When I closed my eyes

To journey inward.

    Nice to visit your blog after a long time, Swarnali! I’m also a keen practitioner and teacher of mindfulness meditation and have been interested in the inward journey myself! Loved your poem for Day 1 of the #AtoZ challenge. All the best with the challenge, Swarnali. I’m looking forward to reading your poems through this month. 🙂

    You’ve beautifully captured your journey inward. The last stanza encapsulates it perfectly:

    “Since the moment I opened my eyes, I was awake,But the awakening had just begun,When I closed my eyes.”

    I was awake,

    But the awakening had just begun

    Loved it. Reminded me of Hindi phrase/saying “Tum sirf zinda ho, jee nahi rahe”

    It is a good start. It shows an attempt at self-realization and observation as well as an initial obstacle.

    But fall on the floor.

    And search again;

    Only then, I see

    the sky reflecting in the glass mirror

    Lovely! I’ll explore the other stanzas too.
