The journey continues

From one home to the other

And never ends

Until the home is set on fire

And vanishes into the horizon

To home another soul

And begin another journey…

The imagery of homes igniting and giving rise to new souls is both haunting and hopeful, Swarnali. Nicely done!

This is so profound and insightful. Not going to lie, it took me a moment to get the essence of this poem. Wonderful, nevertheless.

So crisp and touching. What lovely poetry! It captures the endless cycle of life.

The poem seems accepts the belief in rebirth. After reading it, two thoughts from Tamil tradition came to mind. To quote exactly, I googled.

Ramalinga Swamigal (Vallalar) says (Google translation):

When someone moves from one house to another, they shouldn’t forget the house they lived in before. In the same way, the soul moves from one body to another. According to the good deeds a person has done, a new and suitable body is formed.

A Siddhar poetry offers a different view (Google translation):

    irunṭitum tēkamellām iṟantapin civamē āccu.
    tirunṭiṭa nandi tirumpiyum piṟappāṇappā
    poruntitum njānam inṟi pōṇavar piṟapparēṇpār
    varuntitum aṟiviṇvitai māyattai kāṇar tāṉē

After death, the soul merges with Shiva. Then, Nandi creates new life. This is a secret known learnt out of experience. Those who lack this understanding believe that people are simply reborn.

Two different perspectives. For a reader, both concepts enchants them. More the argument, more the knowledge!

All the best. I’ll try to leave a shorter comment in your next post!!!
