Finding quietude amidst the urban landscape

It is hard, and that makes me feel exhausted

The longing to sit in quiet and close my eyes

And chant, pray, meditate.

But I can’t go to the mountains

Or the river-side or the forest

All I have is this home which is abuzz with noise

Twenty-four seven.

Restless, I decided to renounce this home

Where I can’t find a moment of peace

I was all set to cross the door step

At that moment, I heard a whisper;

Coming from within, with a great rapture

It told me where to find the quietude that I was longing for –

“Build a home in your homebody”, the voice whispered.

Beautiful! It is not in the mountains or the deserts that real peace is to be discovered. That’s easy. Finding peace and contentment at one’s workplace, living environment with fellow human beings, is what calls for real sacrifice and renunciation. Loved this one.

This is so deep! I resonated with everything you wrote in this poem. Wonderful, Swarnali.

Though, finding peace and quiet within self is not an easy process!

That’s the main challenge for us humans, dear.

Your words stir my soul, leaving a profound impact. It reminded me of my time during Sivananda Ashram in Kerala. It was so easy to meditate and carry out spiritual activities there. Our mentor told us on the last day that our test begins when we step back into our regular lives. That will be the time when the learnings need to be applied. I have realized if I carry peace within my heart, every place transforms into a sacred sanctuary.

Loved how this ended with a really valuable thought.

They say that peace is found in solitude. But this solitude is usually understood as finding some lonely place devoid of other life forms where you can be all quiet and meditate. In reality though, you need to be able to blank out the noise and external chaos and find peace within – inner tranquility.

This is so relatable—it’s powerful how the poem captures the struggle for peace in a noisy world. That ending whisper felt like a gentle reminder I didn’t know I needed. Beautifully expressed

This is so deep & profound. To be able to find the peace while amongst others needs immense self-awareness. Lovely poem with a message.

Different people face unique obstacles that prevent them from reaching enlightenment’s peace. Even if I live in a serene hillside home but have no income and worry constantly about my starving family, my energy and focus will naturally be consumed by their plight. Yet, if I can create a space for inner focus even amid chaos, I’m moving toward cosmic realization.
