Call of the Root

I wrote these few lines dedicating my home town Chittaranjan. A small town surrounded by hills and trees, this place is like a patch of lavish green in the centre of the grey world. Lake waters, river, dancing streets and vibrant flowers, they adorn my town with colours of poetry. Where the morning comes with the chirping of the birds and the dusk falls with boatman’s song of homecoming. This is my town, my love, my place where I was born and brought up. This is Chittaranjan, the heart of the queen.

Call of the Root

Where the night sky meets the solitary hill,
Amidst the grey canvas, like a patch of green,
Where the lake water shines and gleams,
O traveller, there is my town, the heart of the queen.

Where the streets dance with the moon beam,
Where the rain drops write verses between,
With a sublime sunset you have never seen,
O traveller, there is my town, the heart of the queen.

Where the river sings lullaby, and the stars fall asleep,
Where the divine shadow narrates the play umpteenth,
Where the clouds play hide and seek, and the rainbow peeps within,
O traveller, there is my town, the heart of the queen.

Where the temple hours welcome, a morning serene,
Where the boats sail their voyage of dreams,
Where the nature hides the treasure beneath,
O traveller, there is my town, the heart of the queen.

Where the memories are still weaving,
A fading tale of love, of sweet sixteen,
Where the spring awaits for the fallen leaves,
O traveller, there is my town, the heart of the queen.
